Qualifications for Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council Representative:
- 1/4 or more Creek
- 18 years of age
- An enrolled citizen of the Tribe
- Reside within the district candidate is filing for one full calendar year
- Must be a Tribal registered voter six (6) months prior to filing as a candidate
- No felony within the last (10) years, a background check will be conducted
- Employees of the Tribe who file, as a candidate must take a leave of absence
Upon filing please provide the following items:
Verification of one (1) year residence must be three of the followingdocuments:
(ALL DOCUMENTS MUST CONTAIN THE SAME PHYSICAL ADDRESS)
- Income tax return for the preceding year
- Homestead exemption
- A copy of House Deed or statement from Creek Nation Housing Authority containing dates of residency
- If renting; a notarized statement from the landlord containing dates of residency
- Utility bill or bills in candidates name; a 12 months report from PSO can be obtained
- Muscogee (Creek) Nation Voter's identification card
Filing is three days, Monday through Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Candidates must provide all documentation upon filing.
National Council Representative Elections are held every two years. Terms are four years with one-half of the Council up for Election every two years.
Seats A, C, E are four year terms.
Seats B & D are two year terms.
According to NCA 05-151 - Constitution Article VI Section 2 (a), reads as follows: "Each representative shall be elected by a vote of the district and shall hold office for four (4) years. These terms of office shall be staggered to ensure that one-half of the Council stands for election every two (2) years. Beginning with the first election after this amendment is approved, those persons filing for B and D Council seats shall serve for a period of two (2) years and those persons filing for A, C and E Council seats shall servce for a period of four (4) ears. The B and D seats will stand for election in two years at which time the B and D seats shall commence a four-year term. |
