The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Communications department’s A/V division is a groundbreaking operation that is setting the standard for tribal multi-media in the state of Oklahoma. Currently, the division produces the state’s only all-Native news television program, Native News Today. In addition, the division also has sound and video studio recording capabilities. Past projects have included documentary filming, archive restoration, voice and instrumental studio recording, and various video projects for tribal departments. Since it’s premier in early 2006, Native News Today has been Oklahoma’s premier source for happenings in Indian Country. Broadcast each week on Tulsa’s CW Network, the 30-minute television program is hosted by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation’s own Jason Salsman and Gerald Wofford and focuses on a modern look at today’s Native Americans and their stories. The show is unique in that it’s primary objective is educating the public about historic and contemporary Indian life. The show is complete with in-studio interviews, human-interest features as well as national headlines pertaining to Native people. Guests have included Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry, recording artist Toby Keith, acclaimed Native American actors Wes Studi and Irene Bedard and many tribal chiefs, legislators and honored elders.
