Position:  Dental Hygienist - Eufaula

DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNMENT: The purpose of this position is to perform advanced prophylactic and preventive dental procedures in the treatment of patients with related medical and dental problems, such as diabetes, cardiac complications, severe caries, and periodontal disease. The Health System provides comprehensive health care services to Native Americans living within the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Health System (MNHS) through the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Community Hospital (CNCH) and five (5) ambulatory health centers in Eufaula, Okemah, Okmulgee, Sapulpa and Coweta.  The Health System also maintains nine (9) Field Health operations consisting of the Behavioral Health Services (BHS), Vocational Rehabilitation Services Contract Health Services (CHS); Community Health Representative (CHR); the Elderly Nutrition (ENP); the Women’s, Infants and Children (WIC) Programs; the Tobacco Prevention Program; (TPP); the Reintegration Program (RIP); and the Diabetes Prevention Programs.

 


REQUIREMENTS:

Completion of a Dental Hygienist curriculum from an accredited institution.  One (1) year of relevant experience as a dental hygienist, Certificates of Training received from the Oklahoma State Board of Dentistry or IHS.  

 

EVALUATION METHODS: Applicants who meet the requirements described above will be evaluated to determine the extent to which they possess or have the potential to acquire knowledge, skills, abilities and personal characteristics, (KSAP's) required of this position. Applicants should address the following KSAP's on a separate attachment to their application. 

 

1.   Knowledge of dental hygiene sciences such as oral anatomy, histology, nutrition pharmacology, the principles and techniques of dental hygiene, and the dental instruments and materials to perform specialized prophylactic and preventive  dental hygiene procedures including scaling, root planning and subgingival curettage.

2.   Knowledge of oral pathology and periodontology sufficient to identify a variety of abnormal hard and soft tissue conditions such as acutegingivitis, periodontitis, and deep periodontal pockets, congenital and developmental defects, infectious diseases, and provide the necessary appropriate prophylactic and therapeutic dental hygiene treatment.

3.   Knowledge of medical diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease as they relate to the care and treatment of the teeth in order to perform bedside prophylaxis, and provide specialized therapeutic dental hygiene procedures and individually tailored home care instruction to patients and community groups.

4.   Skill in providing individual and group oral health care instructions to special patients and the nursing staff and other health care workers in order to motivate patients with special needs toward the practice of effective oral hygiene techniques.

5.   Skill in performing specialized prophylactic and preventive dental hygiene procedures for individuals and special population groups such as diabetes and cardiac complications.
