Behavioral Health Services

The Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse Services (BHSAS) provides a wide range of outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment at our four satellite clinics located in Okmulgee, Okemah, Sapulpa, and Eufaula, Oklahoma.  Although not co-located with the other DHA medical clinics, BHSAS routinely collaborates with the medical providers throughout our health system to provide a continuity of care to our patients.   We provide individual, group, marital, and family counseling.  Psychological testing and substance abuse assessments are also offered at our clinics.  BHSAS is one of a few tribal programs that is state certified as an outpatient substance abuse treatment program.  Another noteworthy aspect of our program is that the staff is composed of approximately 70 % American Indians who are highly educated.  All therapists have at least a master’s degree and most are licensed to practice in the state of Oklahoma.  BHSAS employs two licensed psychologists and a board-certified psychiatrist who provides clinical supervision to master’s level staff.

The mission of the Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse Services (BHSAS)  “is to promote healthy lifestyles and provide a quality of care that enhances the lives of American Indian individuals and families living in our communities.   BHSAS embraces a holistic treatment approach that includes  body, mind, and spirit which facilitates self-empowerment, prevention, education, and intervention.”  Respect for culture and involvement in our Indian communities is essential to the success of our program.
